چکیده

Spans of open maps have been proposed by Joyal, Nielsen, and Winskel as a way of adjoining an abstract equivalence, P-bisimilarity, to a category of models of computation M, where P is an arbitrary subcategory of observations. Part of the motivation was to recast and generalise Milner’s well-known strong bisimulation in this categorical setting. An issue left open was the congruence properties of P-bisimilarity. We address the following fundamental question: given a category of models of computation M and a category of observations P, are there any conditions under which algebraic constructs viewed as functors preserve P-bisimilarity? We define the notion of functors being P-factorisable, show how this ensures that P-bisimilarity is a congruence with respect to such functors. Guided by the definition of P-factorisability we show how it is possible to parametrise proofs of functors being P-factorisable with respect to the category of observations P, i.e., with respect to a behavioural equivalence.

Open maps as a bridge between algebraic observational equivalence and bisimilarity

There are two widely accepted notions of behavioural equivalence, formalizing the idea of observational indistinguishability: observational equivalence for algebras (which are models for sequential systems) and bisimulation equivalence (bisimilarity) for concurrent processes. In this paper we show that the observational equivalences for standard, partial and regular algebras are bisimulation eq...

Bisimilarity and Behaviour-Preserving Reconfigurations of Open Petri Nets

We propose a framework for the specification of behaviour-preserving reconfigurations of systems modelled as Petri nets. The framework is based on open nets, a mild generalisation of ordinary Place/Transition nets suited to model open systems which might interact with the surrounding environment and endowed with a colimit-based composition operation. We show that natural notions of bisimilarity...

Compositional semantics of spiking neural P systems

The aim of the paper is to give a formal compositional semantics for Spiking Neural P systems (SNP systems) by following the Structural Operational Semantics (SOS) approach. A process algebra is introduced whose terms represent SNP systems. The algebra is equipped with a semantics, given as a labelled transition system. This semantics allows notions of behavioural equivalences over SNP systems ...

Symbolic Equivalences for Open Systems

Behavioural equivalences on open systems are usually defined by comparing system behaviour in all environments. Due to this “universal” quantification over the possible hosting environments, such equivalences are often difficult to check in a direct way. Here, working in the setting of process calculi, we introduce a hierarchy of behavioural equivalences for open systems, building on a previous...

Harmonic morphisms, conformal foliations and shear-free ray congruences

Equivalences between conformal foliations on Euclidean 3-space, Hermitian structures on Euclidean 4-space, shear-free ray congruences on Minkowski 4-space, and holomorphic foliations on complex 4-space are explained geometrically and twistorially; these are used to show that 1) any real-analytic complex-valued harmonic morphism without critical points defined on an open subset of Minkowski spac...
